The books, Market Wizards and New Market Wizards refer to trend following but both books imply that anyone with a successful system probably would not share it with anyone, as it would take away their edge. Is this system still useful? Or is it now being made available to consumers because its principles are no longer are as effective in today's market situation?
Trend following is as effective today as when it was first developed. Why? Most people try to trade in order to get rich, over night if at all possible. But when market changes affect their money, then two core emotions come into play - greed and fear. As long as change, greed and fear are components of markets, trend following will succeed. There will always be trends in the marketplace, and there will always be trend followers with the knowledge and self-discipline to capitalize on them.
